Then, from a jail came the wail
Of a downhearted frail

As a part of the blues

Sides face, Grand Square
From a whipporwill, out on a hill
They took a new note
Pushed it through a horn, 'til it was worn
Into a blue note
4 Girls Promenade, one time around
Swing that guy, Promenade
And they made that...the start of the blues

4 Ladies Chain 'cross that ring
Half Sashay, Circle Left
4 Ladies Rollaway
Left Allemande and you Weave
And then they nursed it, and rehearsed it
And they gave out the news
That the Southland
Gave birth to the blues

Heads/Sides Promenade, Halfway around
Walk in, Pass The Ocean, Extend
Swing Thru, Boys Run Right
Bend the Line, Reverse Flutterwheel
